To study The Graduate Diploma Course in Psychotherapy

The graduate diploma course in psychotherapy is a coherent programme leading to a professional qualification in psychotherapy. It is taught in Swedish.

The degree is achieved after completing the course requirements totalling 90 credits over a three-year period. The course is taught on a half-time basis over six semesters and the student must be professionally active at least on a 50% basis alongside his or her studies. This parallel professional activity means that the student must be able to work clinically in psychotherapy with psychotherapeutic work duties during the period of study.

The admission requirements for the course are a clinical first cycle degree in a subject such as psychology, psychiatry or social work. A basic qualification in psychotherapy is also required.

The degree in psychotherapy entitles the holder to be a registered psychotherapist, a qualification which is issued by the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare upon request.

The course is always offered with the following three specialisations:

• Psychodynamic psychotherapy – adults
• Family therapy
• Cognitive-behavioural psychotherapy – adults

On some occasions, the following specialisations may also be offered:

• Psychodynamic psychotherapy – children and youth
• Cognitive-behavioural psychotherapy – children and youth.
