Jokes as a reinforcer in racism
Racisms consist of prejudice and discrimination of people belonging to other ethnical groups. This research project aims at understanding the motivation behind racisms by studying positive reinforcer that supports negative attitudes to other races. In particular we focus on whether jokes regarding other ethnical groups may be a positive reinforcer.
In an experimental study we will present jokes and manipulate whether target of the jokes are from your own or a different ethnical group. The hypothesis is that the laughing response will be larger given that the target is from a different ethnical group compared to you own group. We will also study how this effect is influenced by social acceptability.
