Attachment security and emotional adjustment at introduction to preschool
The quality of the relationship between caregivers and the young child is of great importance for the child's development. When the child starts preschool, the family and preschool contexts are connected for the first time. Since preschool staff can become an important caregiver for the child, it is essential to build a close relationship with the child.
The first weeks of transition to preschool – the preschool introduction days – give an opportunity to lay the foundation for this important relationship. However, there is a lack of research that can help preschools with knowledge how to organize the introduction to facilitate relationship building. This project contributes such knowledge. We:
• map introduction procedures and highlight the preschool staff's perspective
• identify factors of potential importance: both related to the child and its parents and related to the preschool
• investigate how different characteristics in the introduction process can contribute to the relationship between children, preschool staff and parents.
Over 700 preschool staff have already participated in our studies! You can read about our results in the articles below:
An ongoing study examines how various factors and characteristics of the induction process can support the development of good relationships between the family and the preschool staff. We focus on the perspective of both the parent and the preschool staff.
